This course discusses the skyrocketing foreclosure rates that are occurring both nationally and within various states. This course also explores the process of foreclosure and the illegal contributors to this growing trend. Students will learn what preventative measures that the government, lenders, appraisers, agents, and other real estate professionals are implementing to help consumers avoid the stigma and damaging effects of foreclosure. Finally, the course describes alternatives that consumers can choose when faced with foreclosure.
Course Learning Objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Identify the primary contributors to the increase in foreclosures
- Explain the foreclosure process and legal remedies used in different states
- Describe the most prevalent real estate and mortgage fraud schemes and legal cases resulting from those schemes
- Evaluate ways home buyers can protect themselves from foreclosure
- Recall the anti-predatory laws that governments are establishing to educate and protect consumers
- Describe the agent’s role throughout the buyer-agency relationship process
- Determine the agent’s issues and responsibilities in reporting, listing, and selling bank-owned and government-owned foreclosed properties
- Identify alternative solutions to foreclosures that are available to borrowers
